Jorge Lucero

Jorge Lucero currently serves as Associate Dean for Research and Associate Professor in the College of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Formerly a Chicago Public School teacher, Lucero’s lifelong testing of school’s materiality happens as visible and invisible artworks, writing, and teaching.

Lucero led a workshop for the Holy Cross faculty in September.  In the workshop, participants examined and reflected on how we take we take permissions from artists, predecessors, peers, mentors and other creative “things” that we live with.  The resulting lists and images were jointly produced as a curricular and pedagogical repository for any teacher who aims to understand their teaching practice as first and foremost a creative practice. This collaboration provides a  tool through which we can expand our thinking about teaching as a creative practice.
